Piers Secunda studied painting at Chelsea College of Art in London, and lives and works in London and New York. His work examines some of the most pressing issues of our time – the destruction of culture, energy consumption and disappearing natural habitats.

 

Secunda’s work has developed into a research-heavy practice, which examines some of the most significant subjects of our time, such as energy and technology history and the deliberate destruction of culture. His research has been widely published in articles, reviews, essays and radio podcasts., and his work is in numerous global collections including The Ashmolean Museum permanent display, Aramco, UNESCO, the Texas Energy Museum, Iraq Ministry of Culture, and The Kurdish Regional Government.

 

Recent exhibitions include Alderney: The Holocaust on British Soil at Cromwell Place, London; 9/11 – 20 years later at Xavier Ellis, London; And Yet we Rise, American Embassy, London; Pretty Ugly at Thames Side Gallery; and Owning History at the Ashmolean Museum, Washington DC.

 

In these River Works Secunda creates momentary paintings of a fleeting river using ecofriendly dyes, highlighting the beauty and fragility of the natural world.
